We were excited to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday, 6th March 2025, with this year’s theme: ‘Read Your Way’. To embrace this theme, we invited children to come to school dressed in their comfiest reading clothes—whatever helps them relax and enjoy a good book! This included joggers, hoodies, dressing gowns, slippers, or cosy jumpers. Or, of course, they could come dressed up as a book character –
In the weeks leading up to World Book Day and throughout Book Week, we had a variety of exciting activities planned to inspire a love of reading:
Trust-Wide Read-a-thon – Throughout March, we are taking part in a Read-a-thon alongside other Redhill Academy Trust schools. Each child has received a sponsorship card to help raise money for new books for our school and to support children in hospital by providing them with books during their treatment. We appreciate any support you can give to help inspire a love of reading both in school and for children facing difficult times.
Writing Competition – We challenged children to rewrite the ending of their favourite book! This was a fantastic opportunity for them to showcase their creativity and love of storytelling. The deadline for entries was 24th February, and five winners were selected to receive a £5 book voucher to spend at our book fair.
Book Fair – We were delighted to be hosting a book fair from 25th February to 4th March. The fair was open each day from 3:20–3:45pm in the school hall, where children and parents could browse and purchase an amazing new book. Both cash and card payments were accepted. Books ranged from Reception right up to Year 6 so there was something for everyone
Other activities included:
Reading Scavenger Hunt
Story Time Sessions .
The Great Book & Footy Quiz
The Masked Reader
Whole School Book Swap – this was a great success!
Special Author Visit – Alex Foulkes (26th March 2025)
We are delighted to welcome author Alex Foulkes to our school! She will be running exciting workshops for every class based on her book ‘Ministry of Mischief’. There will also be an opportunity for children to have a copy of her book signed. Books will be available to purchase through ParentPay for just £6.
